If you’ve never considered an apprenticeship before, this could be the perfect time. The Government is offering more assistance than ever before through Advanced Learning Loans and grants of up to £1,500 per apprentice from the National Apprenticeship Service.
Apprenticeships are a great way for young people and adult learners to earn while they are gaining skills in a real job, arming them with a qualification and realistic job prospects. But hiring an apprentice will help you, the employer, develop a motivated and skilled workforce.
Apprentices tend to be eager, motivated, flexible and loyal to the company that invested in them. An apprentice is with you because they want to be – they have made an active choice to learn on the job and a commitment to a specific career.
Some 96 per cent of employers who hire apprentices report benefits to their businesses through:
- improved productivity or service while reducing costs
- the generation of new ideas
- improved staff morale and better staff retention
- improved customer service results
- a reduction in staff recruitment and training costs
According to the National Apprenticeship Service, the average apprenticeship increases business’ productivity by £214 per week.
There's never been a better time to consider taking on an apprenticeship. Training organisations will claim Apprenticeship funding on behalf of employers, with 100 per cent funding for 16 – 18 year olds, and 100 per cent funding for 19-24 year-olds, plus up to 40 per cent for those over 25.
More than 100,000 employers in more than 200,000 locations are employing or have employed apprenticeships and the hospitality industry in one of the biggest recruiters. Apprenticeships are available for chefs, food and beverage service, cleaning and support services, hospitality multi-skills and more.
