The National Coastal Tourism Academy was established in 2013. Since its inception it has undertaken a wide range of projects with funding from:

  • The Department for Communities and Local Government’s Coastal Communities Fund (CCF)
  • Department for Work and Pensions and UKCES Futures programme
  • Economic and Social Research Council (joint project with Bournemouth University)
  • VisitEngland’s Discover England Fund

The NCTA exists to support the visitor economy in coastal communities to achieve growth and relies on the support of our partners and supporters.

Bournemouth University

Bournemouth University (BU) is recognised as one of the most innovative universities in the UK, creating a unique fusion of education, research and professional practice. BU has a community of almost 19,000 students from more than 100 different countries and is an important player in the local economy – contributing in excess of £1 million a day to the South West region,

BU’s Department of Tourism & Hospitality is recognized globally as a leading contributor to knowledge creation and dissemination in tourism and hospitality. It has a team of 35 academic staff and more than 1,000 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students.

Bournemouth Borough Council / Bournemouth Tourism

Bournemouth is one of the UK’s premier coastal tourism resorts.

Its tourism department, Bournemouth Tourism works with partners across the destination led by Bournemouth’s Tourism Management Board to create unforgettable memories for holidaymakers and visitors to the town. It creates tourism strategy and campaigns working with the town’s Town Centre and Coastal Business Improvement Districts alongside other industry organisations and agencies. It works closely with its neighbour Poole to integrate tourism services and offers, and also with the rest of Dorset and nearby counties to ensure visitors benefit from the wider region.
